THE
RESORT Fethiye is an ancient Lycian
town with relics dating back to the 4th century BC and is reputed
to have been visited by Alexander the Great. Set
against the magnificent backdrop of the Taurus Mountains and surrounded
by a beautiful, island-strewn bay, the town is now a vibrant holiday
destination.
The picturesque old
quarter is packed with bazaar-style shops, restaurants and bars.
A wide range of boat trips are available at the nearby waterfront
ANCIENT
SITES The Tomb of Amyntas
Impressive rock tombs, carved into
the hillside above the town. The Tomb of Amyntas dates from around
350 BC and has a Greek inscription over the entrance, which resembles
the front of a classical temple. You also get a tremendous panoramic
views of the bay from here!
The Acropolis The remains of a medieval castle, built by the crusader Knights
of St John, and incorporating earlier Greek, Roman and Byzantine
fortifications.
The Roman Theatre Located at the western end of the old quarter the theatre
and dating from Roman times, the theatre is currently being restored
and is sometimes used for concerts
